The Moon

“Where am I?”

“You are in heaven.”

“How… How did I die?”

“You were travelling to see the pyramids. There was a war going on between tribes. Your friends left you in the desert. You wandered the entire day and night till you gave up.”

“Come, follow me. We are going to see God.”

“See? I’ve been blind my whole life. I… I can’t see.”

“Wake up.”

Ella opened her eyes. She could see everything. The view was wonderful and surprising. Everything people had said about things, she was seeing them. She grasped the bed sheet in excitement. She turned to the angel and asked, “Where can I see the moon?”

Angel pointed at a window close to her bed. It was a small dreamy room. There were no lights, but it was bright in there. Ella walked to the window and looked out. The moon was big and few steps away from her window. She was smiling and crying.

“Follow me. God is waiting for you.”

Ella wiped her tears and followed the angel. She saw weird and interesting objects, levitating, on the way to the hall. A waterfall falling from above and going nowhere. A giant mirror touching the infinity. She walked to the mirror and looked at her reflection. It was a unique feeling for her to see herself for the first time. She noticed a wound on her left hand. “It is from the fireplace accident when I was 7. Never knew it looked like this,” she said to herself. She looked at her hair in the mirror. She took the hairband off and thought, “Alice told me they look better when I free them. She was right.” There was a huge cherry blossom tree on the right side of the pathway. John Lennon and George Harrison were sitting and singing under it.

She entered the hall and saw God waiting for her along with a few other people. She was shaking and sweating.

“Come sit, Ella. You know why we called you here?”

“No.”

“We saw you gave your life to do good deeds and to get Nirvana.”

“Yes.”

“But it is not the same right now. We are seeing a change in your soul, which was once so pure to get Nirvana. Can you explain what happened since you got here!?”

“The change happened because of the moon.”

“And?”

“When I was alive, I asked everyone one same question. What is the most beautiful thing they have ever seen? They all said the moon. They all said it without hesitation or having any doubt. I was blind then. I only focused on doing what I could. Now I’ve seen it, the moon. I’ve seen the beauty. I got caught by a desire which I never had. Even if now you’ll give me Nirvana, and turn my soul into that cherry blossom tree or into another star, I won’t be happy.”

“What do you want?”

“I want to stay here and admire the beauty of the moon.”
